To-do List and Thoughts from Melva Loves Scraps

I have been waiting patiently (mostly) to hear back from the grandson of one of the POWs that had written to my grandparents, Phillip & Katie Schleich.  He has written twice that he needed to process the fact that Gotthart Hauswold had written, but also that there were two other letters on his behalf... He was still processing the idea that the letters had been saved and still exist 76 years later.

I read an Easter devotion that had a fictitious conversation between a few of Jesus' disciples after the resurrection...

I struggle to take this in, but eventually ask, “How ...

Sew & Tell ~ Christmas Prep Delay from Melva Loves Scraps

I should be able to show the progress I made this week... and I have made some, though not what I had hoped for.  I sandwiched and (lightly) pinned (thanks to the fusible batting that is my go to) the dresden quilt.  I have done stitch in the ditch to secure the center of the quilt and am ready to tackle the outlining of the plates.

I really need to get this done and to my customer so that they can ship it off so that it is received before Christmas.  As I feel extra energized, I will be at ...

December 5, 2022 Sew & Tell and Weekly To-Do from Melva Loves Scraps

I have plenty to show this week... Last week's To-Do list seemed like a lofty goal, but thanks to fewer interruptions, appointments and illness I had plenty of time in the studio...

✔ Dresden Quilt is together and has one border on it.  Woohoo!  I am waiting on an order of fabric for a second border and the binding to arrive and will be picking up the backing fabric Wednesday while at the final Pieces From the Past class.

BTW, Patchwork Phoenix is having a year-end blow out sale... check them out!  50% off most fabrics.

Here's a closer ...

Sew & Tell ~ 11/28/2022 & To-Do List from Melva Loves Scraps

It's time for Sew & Tell again!  I am anticipating that you may have had some extra time for sewing or quilting (since it has been a long weekend for some of us as we celebrated Thanksgiving in the US).  And perhaps, like me, have turned your attention to Christmas gifts.

After completing the six free-motion feathered wreaths on my retreat quilt, I decided that I really needed to set it aside and turn my attention to a commissioned Dresden Plate Quilt.

I am happy to say that the tension issue was corrected with a change of thread and slowing ...

Keep Calm and Check Things Off from Melva Loves Scraps

Life, after a month of disruptions and distractions has happily returned to quiet and calm.  For this I am so, so, SO grateful.

I happily ticked things off of last week's to-do list, including some items that I knew were on there, but did not share last week.  One such item was the last Pieces of the Past block of the month "class" at the LQS.  One quilter is caught up and ready to tackle her sashing strips and borders and two of the quilters are scrambling to get caught up so that they can participate in the quilt ...

Retreat Recap, Quilty Wishes & To-Do from Melva Loves Scraps

My first quilting retreat is in the books!  I had a fun time, met many new quilting friends, laughed plenty and made a quilt top.

The pattern, Sticks & Stones, from Missouri Star Quilts was an easy pattern and layout to follow without having to pay too close attention... though there were a few seams that needed to be ripped out.  The time with Jack was only because I missed a couple sticks of the fabric being too close together.

Once I had my top complete, I volunteered time with Jack on the behalf of a few other quilters.  It was ...

Technical To-Do Tasks from Melva Loves Scraps

I was hopeful that November would be a calmer, quieter month than October was as I dealt with shingles... And that I would happily and blissfully enjoy ample time in my studio.

My to-do list looked something like this...

Pack and prepare for my first ever quilt retreat!

Begin quilting the Pieces in the Garden Row Quilt!

Make Pajama pants and new slippers (to be worn at the quilt retreat).

However, that must have been a pipe dream because November greeted us with a technological nightmare that is overwhelming and beyond our knowledge and "pay-grade".

You see... our web page ...

To-Do List Tackled from Melva Loves Scraps

Last week I had looked forward to two fast finishes...  And I was successful!  Funfetti with the pink 4-patch blocks and some 1990s era pink and green was a great practice for me with stippling.

Alycia had suggested doing free-motion hearts.  I took her suggestion and ran with it.  You can read all about the details by clicking the link above.

The Black & White quilt was a quick piecing job as well... I had the most difficult time trying to decide on what colors to pair with them.

Red, yellow and lime green were among the suggestions offered... I really ...

When You have Scraps...Make Quilts! from Melva Loves Scraps

Haven't we all heard the saying... "When life gives you scraps, make QUILTS!" ???

Much like the turning lemons into lemonade saying... sometimes we simply have to accept what is and make the best of it.  Sweet prayer and meditation times have helped make life a little sweeter and has also helped to keep me focused and centered... SO

As we C O N T I N U E to wait on word regarding our two insurance issues (trying to transition to a more affordable health insurance and getting the requested records actually sent to the new company for review ...

Checking Off on the To-do List from Melva Loves Scraps

Thank goodness I have to-do lists... if not for them I might forget what I am supposed to be doing and what is next!

One row needs to be photographed and two patterns need to be finalized.

I'll be writing another Teatime with Tressie memory - DONE!  Watch for it on Thursday.  This one includes another sweet recipe.

Three outta four ain't bad, right?  Haha!  I didn't get the photos done (yet) and may not since I finalized the bonus pattern and Teatime story that is being released on Thursday.

I strive for perfection and consistency throughout life ...

New To-Do List ~ Fall vs. Halloween from Melva Loves Scraps

A new week means a new To-do list...

Last week my Babylock Lyric went in for a spa treatment.  It's been a year and I have used a lot... A LOT!  It was time and I missed her.  She has returned, good as new I am guaranteed.  And just in time! But before I get to what I have on the cutting table, I want to take a look at last week's list.

✔ A new story in the Pieces in the Garden Sew Along series.

DONE!  The Noon & Night block accompanies the very short story of the first ...

To Do... Ta-dah... Done! from Melva Loves Scraps

Just a quick post to check in and state that last week's list was successfully scratched through!

✔  Finish Memory bear As a matter of fact, this little guy got to go camping with us since there is a chance my friend will meet us at the campground to pick it up. ❤

Get the baby's first quilt top at least to point of being ready for borders.  You can see that picture on the Sew & Tell post...

Finish final details of Row 8 in the Pieces in the Garden Sew Along story and pattern release.  The Wedding Day Ring ...

Monday Morning Sew & Tell from Melva Loves Scraps

Hey everyone!  Thanks for stopping by for this week's session of Sew & Tell.

Last week I wasn't overly busy ambitious, but I did make progress on the two projects I had in my plans.  BUT... forward progress is still progress.

Monday Morning Sew & Tell - August 8, 2022 from Melva Loves Scraps

Good morning! And welcome to this week's Sew & Tell... a chance to show off the progress you made on a project over the weekend.

Last week Jocelyn shared a finish, perhaps a UFO, since it was labeled Dirty Dozen #10.  It is a scrappy project and featured fabric with some Frozen characters.  I, personally, love Olaf. ⛄

We thoroughly enjoyed our time camping.  Our friends, however, were unable to make it.  They had a family situation that kept them from joining us.  Alas, we will do it another time!

We were near Rye, Colorado.  It is a tiny little community ...

Lost To Do Lists from Melva Loves Scraps

Since we have been cleaning and working on the new camper, to-do lists have been floating around...  Dave had started a few with things to order and fix/do.  A new awning is on its way, as are all the necessary items for installing a fifth-wheel hitch in the bed of our truck.

I had a list of miscellaneous items to purchase locally, or order on-line if we couldn't find what we needed in town.  I kept track of my list...  While running errands a few days ago he asked me for his list.  I handed him what I ...

To-Do... Get Back to Quilting! from Melva Loves Scraps

The past few weeks have been quiet in the quilting realm... And, boy...  Am I ready!

Sadly, Fortunately (?), I have no projects with urgent deadlines staring me in the face.

❧  I will (should) have ample time to review and sort all of the pictures from our time away in Red River.  What a fun time we all had!  This is one of the few photos of ALL of us together... There are others, but not on our cameras... more will follow.

Horseback riding - Wine Festival - Go Kart Races - Ice Cream - Game Times - Softball practice - Community Line Dance lessons - Fishing - Bike ...

Monday Morning Sew & Tell - June 6, 2022 from Melva Loves Scraps

My show & tell this morning is short & sweet... I had just to things on last week's To-Do list...

✔ Scrapbooking... 2018 is "in the books!"  In addition to this project, I gathered some new photos and updated and completed the hallway's two collage frames and got them back on the wall.  Our walls have been void of family photos since we took them all down to paint the hall and living room.  We also created two photo walls in the living room one featuring a few wedding pics, parents and grandparents and the other our children and their families.

To-Do List Done from Melva Loves Scraps

Happy Tuesday!  Let's take a look at what I had on last week's "To-do" list...

✔ Prepare the step samples for the Pieces From the Past BOM in June, Blocks #11 & 12

These are two beginner friendly blocks ~ the Owl and Indian Star and with the completion of these two, the participants at Patchwork Phoenix will be ready to assemble one row of their quilt.

❧ And this reminds me that I need to get the cutting instructions for that step to the shop owner...

✔ Write pattern, test and photograph Block #6 of the Pieces in the Garden Sew Along ...

Summer Camp Prep Exercises from Melva Loves Scraps

Last summer I participated in the (on-line) Fiona Sandwich Summer Camp, hosted by Rachael. It was great fun to choose an activity, select a postcard block for our quilt and happily mark off an activity on the "activity sheet".

The summer camp activities were enjoyed so much by participants that she created a "Winter Camp" with similar activities and projects.  Our camping journal quilt, at that point, was caught up, so I skipped out on that one.

I am ready to go with the summer camp again...  This year the aim of the camp is to "cultivate your inner artist ...

A Marathon Weekend and Quilt from Melva Loves Scraps

As I stare at the beginning of this week, I have a tired, blank, empty stare...

After painting ALL day on Saturday, cleaning carpet on Sunday and getting furniture back in place I am exhausted!  What a week...  Let's take a look at what was on the "list" and what I accomplished.

✔ Block #5 of the Pieces in the Garden Sew Along was photographed... You'll be able to see what it is on May 26th.
